In July of last year, the case against Ricky Martin was filed. The Puerto Rican singer had been denounced by his nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez Martin, for an alleged case of domestic violence. It was the artist’s nephew himself who wanted to withdraw the accusations, claiming that it was a completely free and voluntary decision.
However, all this happened after the singer filed a complaint against the young man for extortion, requesting damages. Dennis had initially sued him for an alleged sexual assault. In addition, it should be recalled that Ricky Martin‘s nephew suffers, according to the singer’s lawyer, from mental problems.
“He is struggling with profound mental health problems,” said Marty Singer, the artist’s lawyer.
Ricky Martin’s nephew’s counterclaim
But the story never seems to end, as Martin‘s nephew has sued the artist again. This time, for 10 million dollars for damages caused by a “non-consensual sexual conduct” that was repeated since he was 11 years old.
The lawsuit, which was filed last Thursday before a court of San Juan and which has been published by several media outlets, details alleged sexual encounters between the singer and his nephew.
“The non-consensual sexual relations continued after middle school and during the years that the plaintiff Sanchez Martin was under 21 years old. In the years thereafter, telephone and social media communications between the parties intensified. […] Sanchez Martin constantly warned Ricky Martin that he felt he was being stalked and asked him to cease his constant communications,” it reads.
Damages of 10 million dollars
According to the counterclaim, the damages caused are of enormous value: “The actions, in addition to constituting torts, caused enormous damages to Sanchez Martin, who had neither the maturity nor the legal capacity to consent to sexual acts initiated by an adult, in this case Ricky Martin. […] The damages for this conduct are estimated at approximately 10 million dollars and are liquidated and enforceable at this time.”
