On Monday, July 3, the death of Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the 19-year-old grandson of actor Robert De Niro, was made public.
The young man’s mother, Drena, the actor’s daughter, broke the sad news in a statement, but did not reveal the cause of death.

“My beautiful sweet angel,” started Drena De Niro‘s Instagram post.
“I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly.
“You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life.
“I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you.
“I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.
“You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you.
“I’m so sorry my baby, I’m so sorry.
“Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy.”

She later shared another post that gave a clue as to the cause of death.
“To the person who sold Leo the fentanyl laced drugs that took him away from us, I hope every day you will think of me and my family you killed us all,” she wrote.

Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, who had participated in projects such as ‘A Star Is Born’, in which he played the son of Bradley Cooper‘s best friend, may have died of an overdose.
TMZ reports that his death is being investigated as an overdose and, according to the media, Leandro was found in a flat and, near his body, traces of drugs and paraffin have been found.
A friend of Leandro‘s, concerned that he had not been heard from for a few days, found him dead, sitting in a chair.

After the sad news of the 19-year-old’s death came to light, Robert De Niro released a statement.
“I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,” he said.
