Romania smoked Ukraine in an emphatic start to their Euro 2024 campaign, before falling to Belgium in the next game. Slovakia did the opposite, stunning Belgium to start before falling to a late Ukraine comeback.

With these two nations within two spots of each other in the current FIFA rankings, there’s no telling who will come out on top in the end, and the chance of mayhem is likely across the 90 minutes.

These two teams traded opposite results, so it’s hard to discern who will finish on top, which the odds reflect. Yet Slovakia have looked better on the whole than Romania, who benefitted greatly in their victory from Andriy Lunin’s horrible goalkeeping.
Slovakia also benefitted from opposition mistakes as Belgium totally misfired in front of net, but the Falcons were better than both Belgium and Ukraine in the first 45 minutes of their two games. They faded after halftime in both, but Belgium were always going to press forward to avoid a surprise upset, and Ukraine have made a habit of late comebacks.
In the end, the Slovakia two Euro 2024 performances are easier to trust than Romania’s.

Slovakia have collected just six corners through their first two matches, and don’t have a propensity for going anywhere above around four in recent games even prior to Euro 2024. They even put together just seven in their qualifying final against Bosnia & Herzegovina, a match in which they played a man up for the final half-hour while searching for a winner.
Romania, meanwhile, do have a history of playing for set-pieces. Most notably, they put up seven against Belgium despite just 45 percent possession, and got four in the defeat to Ukraine despite just 29 percent possession.
