Victoria Beckham is busy planning a series of lavish parties for her husband David Beckham‘s 50th birthday, and this has put her on a collision course with her group of friends from a few decades ago.
The former England and Manchester United star’s anniversary celebrations are already giving Victoria a big headache.
It is her Spice Girls bandmates who are causing her anxiety about the festivities she is planning for her husband in May.
Victoria Beckham’s dilemma with the Spice Girls
While Victoria’s four bandmates, Emma Bunton (48), Mel Brown (49), Mel Chisholm (51) and Geri Horner (52), attended the party for Victoria’s 50th birthday in April 2024, she is now worried about the differences that are said to have existed between Mel B and Geri for some years.
Last year, it was reported that Horner rejected any future meeting because he refused to share the stage again with Brown.
After that, Mel B reportedly called her bandmates “bitches”, after claiming they kicked her out of the group chat for suggesting a tour.
“Victoria is already diving into planning David’s birthday party; she’s determined to make it as grand as the one he threw for her,” a source told Radar On Line.
“She imagines a family getaway, followed by a romantic trip just for the two of them, topped off with a massive celebration with all their friends. With a top-notch guest list expected, but she is in a dilemma about which Spice Girls will be on the invitation,” the source added.
“In her perfect scenario, Vic would invite Emma and Mel C, but she knows that excluding Geri and Mel B would complicate things. The thought of the two of them together makes her anxious, but she realizes how important all the girls were in the early days of her relationship with David. It wouldn’t be right not to have them there.”
Victoria and Geri also have a complicated past
Beckham and Horner also have an awkward relationship, dating back to when the latter abruptly left the band in 1998. At the time, Beckham said: “When Geri left the group, it was bad. She left on my birthday and didn’t tell anyone. She didn’t show up. We had to continue the American part of the tour.”
Tensions came to a head during the highly publicised 2019 reunion tour.
While Brown criticized Beckham for being “difficult” and not joining them, it was reportedly her fights with Horner that prevented her from participating.
Speaking before the meeting, a source said: “The two of them could not be more divided, and both see themselves as the bosses. Everyone involved is prepared for some epic discussions.”
The band performed as a quartet for the 13 shows, although Beckham earned $2.5 million in licensing and merchandise without singing a single note.
At the time, she said she would rather focus on her fashion line and her children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
More recently, she reiterated that part of her life was “firmly closed,” and now that her fashion and beauty brand is finally turning a profit, that is her priority.
“It’s a case of Victoria trying to please everyone and not offend anyone while hosting the party. It’s a really difficult task,” the source concluded.
