Shakira believed that ex-partner Gerard Pique was the person she would spend her life with, but this perception was shattered.
The famous singer publicly announced their break-up in June 2022, marking the end of their 11-year relationship. Together, they share two sons, Milan, aged 10, and Sasha, aged 8.
During an interview with Billboard, published on Thursday, the Colombian singer opened up about the breakdown of their relationship. She expressed her desire for a lasting love similar to her parents, who have remained together for 50 years.
Reflecting on her retaltionship with Pique, the 46-year-old singer revealed that she had to temporarily put her music career on hold while residing in Spain.
“My priority was my home, my family. I believed in ’till death do us part.’ I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children,” she said.
“The thing is, I was dedicated to him. To the family, to him. It was very difficult for me to attend to my professional career while in Barcelona.
“I couldn’t leave my children and just go somewhere to make music outside my house. It was hard to maintain the rhythm.”
However, after moving back to Miami in May, Shakira has been actively recording new music in the studio and has plans to embark on a tour in 2024.
