Scottie Barnes and the Raptors still have a lot of work to do before they can even sniff the Play-In Tournament, but at least Raptors Nation can get behind this hot streak.
The Wizards, meanwhile, will be looking for their first win in 15 games. They have gone just 6-39 this season, with a 5-19 record at home. If Washington can’t turn things around at least a little, its .133 winning percentage will rank in the bottom five in NBA history.

This marks just the fourth time all season in which the Raptors were the favorite in a game, and it’s the first time in the 2024-25 campaign that they’ve been road favorites. Toronto has gone 1-2 both straight up and against the spread as a fave this season.
Frankly, the spread should be more heavily in Toronto’s favor. This squad has finally gotten back to full health, and it’s actually clicking on all cylinders. Earlier in the season, it was a dark-horse cover squad — now it’s just a straight-up powerhouse that nobody seems to be watching.

You can’t argue with four straight Ws and a 6-1 stretch. Scottie Barnes is back to doing it all, and he has taken some burdens off RJ Barrett and Gradey Dick’s shoulders. Jakob Poeltl has been a beast on the interior, and both Chris Boucher and Kelly Olynyk have backed him up well of late. Bruce Brown and Davion Mitchell have gone under the radar with their perimeter defense.
Don’t look at the Raptors’ 3-19 road record — this is a new squad. The one we have seen since the calendar flipped to the New Year might be a playoff team. It’s certainly a better team than this awful iteration of the Wizards, maybe by 10-12 points. Take what should be an easy cover in the nation’s capital.

Barnes averages roughly 20/8/6 on the season, but he has really picked up the pace in the New Year. The Raptors’ franchise player has averaged 35.5 points, rebounds and assists (PRA) per game in January, and he’s averaging well over 38 PRA per game over the past week.
Since this surge has translated to wins, and Toronto wants to keep this streak alive (not to mention avoid a 20th loss in 23 road games), we like Barnes to once again exceed 35 here. Don’t expect much resistance from the Wizards’ perimeter D, which ranks among the worst in the NBA in just about every metric. Smash the OVER.
