When the history of the Titanic is mentioned, many ignore the majesty of that work to focus only on the fatal outcome. The British luxury liner tragically sank on its maiden voyage on the night of April 14-15, 1912.
The alluring legacy has drawn in many people, including Clive Palmer who will build a new version of the ship by 2027.
Over the decades, experts have tried to understand how the ship crashed into the side of an iceberg on its starboard side. They’ve almost spent decades attempting to discover where the ship is located and the identities of those who died at sea.
But another dream has also been to reconstruct the magnificent ship and to allow her to cross the Atlantic to spiritually complete the journey that the original Titanic could not complete and now this dream may become a reality thanks to the initiative and tenacity of Clive Palmer.
The Australian billionaire has set out to build Titanic II entirely financed by himself. He plans to have his project accepted during 2025 so that this new ship can begin to sail the seas in three years’ time. A goal too bold, given the difficulty and the lack of time.
Characteristics of the Titanic II
The billionaire has presented a sketch, in the form of a 3D project, in which he includes in his ship: 835 cabins (383 first class, 201 second class and 251 third class) and availability for more than 2,300 passengers on board. Obviously, historical overtones could not be missing.
Palmer has assured that the maiden voyage will be the same as that of its predecessor: Southampton to New York, although with the hope that the outcome will be completely different.
“It’s a lot more fun doing the Titanic than sitting at home and counting my money,” Clive noted. The Australian intends to invest between $500 million and $1 billion for this Titanic II.
According to The Guardian, this ship could weigh more than 55,000 tons.
