The ongoing feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West seems to have flared up once again. On Thursday, Swift unveiled a newly retitled track, “thank You aimEe,” on a digital re-release of her album “The Tortured Poets Department.”
The song, previously titled “thanK you aIMee,” had originally sparked speculation due to the capitalization of “Kim” within its title, seemingly referencing Kim Kardashian, Kanye West’s ex-wife.
However, the new title appears to shift focus directly to West himself, with the capitalized “Y” and “E” clearly pointing towards his current moniker, Ye.
This version of the song is the live performance Swift delivered at her Eras Tour stop at Wembley Stadium in July, where she blended it with her song “Mean” from the “Speak Now” album. According to Swift‘s website, the re-released album will be available at midnight.
Swift’s decision to retitle the track comes on the heels of West’s recent album release, “Vultures 2,” in which he mentioned Swift by name. Although Swift has remained silent on the lyrical reference, her latest album release speaks volumes about where she stands.
A historic record
In a particularly symbolic victory, Swift recently broke West’s long-held record of 11 consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart. Her latest album, “TTPD,” secured the top spot for the 14th time, amassing 142,000 equivalent album units, surpassing West‘s collaborative project with Ty Dolla $ign, which debuted with 107,000 equivalent album units.
The rift between Swift and West dates back to the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech, claiming that Beyoncé deserved the award instead. While the two appeared to reconcile in the years that followed, tensions reignited in 2016 when West referenced Swift in his song “Famous.”
The situation intensified when Kim Kardashian released an edited video suggesting Swift had approved the controversial lyric. Swift, however, denied this in a 2023 interview with TIME magazine, calling the video a “fully manufactured frame job.”
