Tony Todd, who starred as the maniac murderer Candyman in four slasher horror films between 1992-2021, has died at the age of 69 his manager has announced, but what is his cause of death?
He made his debut in the role 32 years ago to critical acclaim, earning a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and went on to reprise the position in the 2021 sequel as well as two other additions to the franchise in 1995 and 1999.
“I regretfully can confirm that my dear friend and client of over 30 years, Tony Todd has passed away,” Jeffrey Goldberg told The Post. “What an amazing man and I will miss him every single day.”
What was Tony Todd’s cause of death?
The actor, who was born in 1954 in Washington DC, died at his home in Marina del Rey, California, of natural causes as per TMZ. He is survived by two children.
He also had an expansive career away from the saga, appearing in over 240 film and television productions with his last living credit being the role of Future Mr. Lockwood in the 2024 movie, Steam, whilst he also voiced Venom in the Spider-Man 2 video game.
Whilst in the television industry, he appeared in big shows such as Law & Order, Smallville, Charmed, 21 Jump Street and Star Trek: The Next Generation, highlighting his diverse range of talent.
His Candyman co-star, Virginia Madsen, who starred as Helen, also posted an emotional tribute to social media in his memory.
“My beloved. May you rest in power sweet to the sweet in heaven,” Madsen wrote via Instagram. “The great actor Tony Todd has left us and now is an angel. As he was in life. More later but I can’t right now. I love you.”
