The Galleria building in midtown Manhattan is one of the most luxurious buildings in New York and David Copperfield had an apartment there, but the magician made an act of disappearance by leaving his home with a series of problems that his neighbors have felt.
The new resident of the apartment where Copperfield lived has given evidence of the state in which he left the space and the images are shocking. Witnesses make it clear that Copperfield was very dirty.
“I think I heard about it from my neighbor, who in turn heard about it from the janitor,” said Emma Ruth Yulo-Kitiyakara, 78, a former resident of the building who saw the photos of Copperfield‘s apartment.
But this didn’t happen recently, it was back in 1997 when the magician was in his prime. Sometime later, the four-story penthouse seemed to transform into an obvious squalor that caused problems for the building’s other residents.
An expensive property
The neighbors of the Galleria building were used to seeing famous people and millionaires, since the property is a luxury one and they usually have a cleaning service to keep their homes impeccable, something that did not happen with Copperfield‘s flat.
Copperfield‘s relationship with New York is long and particular and, at least for now, seems to be on pause, but it is likely that this story will not allow him to return so easily to any property.
He lives in Las Vegas, where he performs 15 times a week with a show called ‘An Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion’. His attorney in this matter, Matthew A. Cuomo, said the claims in the lawsuit are overblown. “This is nothing more than an insurance claim,” he said.
