The Wimbledon semifinals of the men’s draw will be played on Friday, July 12 with Carlos Alcaraz present for the second consecutive edition. Pending the two remaining quarterfinal matches, which pit Lorenzo Musetti against Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur against Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev have been the first to reach the Wimbledon semifinals.
The Spaniard and the Russian will repeat last year’s semifinals where the world number three, then number one, won without problems by 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3. It will be the sixth meeting between the two, to which Alcaraz arrives with the balance in favor with four wins against Medvedev‘s two.
After knowing his next opponent, Alcaraz was positive analyzing the duel, knowing that he will have to take the initiative: “I am very happy to be in the semifinals and to face him again. Most of the games do depend on me and that’s pretty good. For better or for worse they depend on me. Daniil is like a wall, he gets to every ball”.
Wimbledon 2024 men’s Semifinals: players and dates
With Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev returning to the semifinals, Novak Djokovic will look for his pass against Alex de Minaur, who reaches his first quarterfinals after beating Arthur Fils 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 in the round of 16. The Serb is confident after becoming the first player to reach the Grand Slam quarter-finals 60 times.
After overcoming his knee injury, the Serb is in the comfortable part of the draw, after getting rid of heavyweights such as Sinner, Alcaraz or Medvedev and after the defeat of Zverev.
For his part, the Australian will try to put in trouble the Balkan, who already knows how to hurt him this 2024, after winning a few months ago in the United Cup by 6-4 and 6-4. However, Djokovic has the advantage in the favorable balance after winning two of their three meetings.
The remaining semifinalist will be the winner of the match between Lorenzo Musetti and Taylor Fritz. The American, ranked 12th in the world and favorite in the match, comes from an epic comeback against Alexander Zverev, after winning two sets against him and taking the match by 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3) and 6-3, in three hours and 29 minutes.
The American repeats the quarterfinals of 2022 against a rookie Musetti in the round, after reaching the second week of Wimbledon for the first time in his career. The 25th-ranked Italian has so far had a comfortable run in the tournament, beating Frenchman Lestienne, compatriot Darderi, Argentine Comesana and Frenchman Perricard.
